Wheat Flour Appam is a traditional South Indian snack made with wheat flour and jaggery. It is a sweet and fluffy pancake-like dish that is typically enjoyed during festive occasions. Here’s the recipe:

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Ready in: 35 minutes

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup jaggery, grated or powdered
  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup water (adjust as needed)
  • Oil for frying
Instructions:
  1. In a mixing bowl, add wheat flour, grated jaggery, mashed banana, grated coconut, cardamom powder, and a pinch of salt. Mix well to combine the ingredients.
  2. Gradually add water to the mixture while stirring continuously. The consistency of the batter should be slightly thicker than a dosa batter. Mix until there are no lumps in the batter.
  3. Heat a paniyaram pan or appam pan and grease the cavities with a little oil.
  4. Pour a spoonful of the batter into each cavity of the pan. Cover the pan and cook on medium heat for a few minutes until the bottom side turns golden brown.
  5. Flip each appam using a spoon or skewer and cook the other side until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Remove the appams from the pan and repeat the process with the remaining batter, adding more oil to the pan if needed.
  7. Serve the Wheat Flour Appams warm as a snack or as a dessert. They can be enjoyed on their own or with a side of coconut chutney or a drizzle of honey.

Wheat Flour Appams are a delicious and healthier alternative to traditional appams made with rice flour. They have a soft and fluffy texture with a subtle sweetness from the jaggery and banana. Enjoy them as a festive treat or as a delightful snack any time of the year.
