Chickpea curry, also known as Chana Masala, is a flavorful and satisfying Indian dish made with chickpeas cooked in a spiced tomato-based gravy. It is typically enjoyed with rice, naan bread, or roti. Here is a recipe for Chickpea Curry:

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Ready Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups cooked chickpeas (or 1 can of chickpeas, drained and rinsed)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, slit lengthwise (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish
  • Lemon wedges for serving
Instructions:
  1. Heat oil in a pan or skillet over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds until fragrant.
  2. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  3. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the chopped tomatoes and green chili (if using). Cook until the tomatoes soften and start to break down, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Add the coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes to allow the spices to release their flavors.
  6. Add the cooked chickpeas to the pan and stir to coat them with the spice mixture.
  7. Add water as needed to adjust the consistency of the curry. Simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together and the curry to thicken slightly.
  8. Stir in the garam masala and cook for an additional minute.
  9. Taste the curry and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  10. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves.
  11. Serve the Chickpea Curry hot with steamed rice, naan bread, or roti. Squeeze some lemon juice on top, if desired.

Note: You can customize the spice levels of the curry by adjusting the amount of red chili powder and green chili used.

This recipe serves approximately 4 servings. Adjust the quantity of ingredients based on your requirements. Enjoy the delicious and flavorful Chickpea Curry!
