Rava upma is a popular South Indian dish made with semolina (rava) and various vegetables. However, if you prefer to make it without veggies, here is a recipe for a simple and delicious Rava Upma:

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Ready Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup semolina (rava)
  • 2 tablespoons ghee or oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal (split black gram)
  • 1 teaspoon chana dal (split Bengal gram)
  • 10-12 curry leaves
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups water
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
  1. Heat ghee or oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add cumin seeds, urad dal, and chana dal to the pan. Sauté until the dals turn golden brown.
  4. Add curry leaves, green chilies, and grated ginger to the pan. Sauté for a minute.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and add semolina (rava) to the pan. Stir continuously for 3-4 minutes, or until the rava turns aromatic and slightly golden.
  6. In a separate pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
  7. Slowly pour the boiling water into the pan with rava. Be careful as it may splutter.
  8. Stir well to combine the rava and water. Add salt to taste.
  9. Cover the pan with a lid and let it cook on low heat for about 5-7 minutes, or until the rava absorbs all the water and becomes soft and fluffy. Stir occasionally to prevent lumps from forming.
  10. Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes.
  11. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  12. Serve the Rava Upma hot as a breakfast dish or a light meal.

This recipe serves 2-3 people. You can also customize the recipe by adding vegetables like onions, carrots, peas, etc., if desired. Enjoy the warm and comforting Rava Upma!
