Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Ready Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 cup semolina (rava)
- 2 tablespoons ghee or oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon urad dal (split black gram)
- 1 teaspoon chana dal (split Bengal gram)
- 10-12 curry leaves
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- Salt to taste
- 2 cups water
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Heat ghee or oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add cumin seeds, urad dal, and chana dal to the pan. Sauté until the dals turn golden brown.
- Add curry leaves, green chilies, and grated ginger to the pan. Sauté for a minute.
- Reduce the heat to low and add semolina (rava) to the pan. Stir continuously for 3-4 minutes, or until the rava turns aromatic and slightly golden.
- In a separate pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
- Slowly pour the boiling water into the pan with rava. Be careful as it may splutter.
- Stir well to combine the rava and water. Add salt to taste.
- Cover the pan with a lid and let it cook on low heat for about 5-7 minutes, or until the rava absorbs all the water and becomes soft and fluffy. Stir occasionally to prevent lumps from forming.
- Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve the Rava Upma hot as a breakfast dish or a light meal.
